Uses of Succulents

According to Biblical reports reveal that Aloe vera was used to embalm the body of Jesus Christ (Akinyele and Odyi 2007) and Alexander used to treat the wounds of injured solders (Akinyele and Odyi 2007).

Some of the succulents like Caralluma sp., C. fimbrata and C.edulis are eaten as vegetables in India and Northern Africa. Stonecrops (Sedum sp.) have sour or peppery property, are used in salads, if eaten in large amounts can cause indigestion.

Purslane is excellent in stews and soups, as well as tasty fried and good in salads. Tequilana (Agave azud) is used in tequila production.
