Morphological Characters

Body: Medium sized and compact body

Body coat: Predominantly black in colour. Brisket, belly, ribs, lateral parts and legs are covered with long hair.

Horns: Mostly curved, black in colour and are bigger in males than females

Ears: Horizontal ears (typical characteristic)

Limbs: Short and stocky

Morphometric characters

Body weight: 206-416 kg

Production traits

Milk yield per day: 1 kg

Temperament: Males are massive and aggressive.

Remarks: Reared by Monpa community for milk, meat, fibre, transportation and manure. Yak hairs are used to make carpet and blanket.
