Morphological characteristics


Body: Squat in posture

Plumage: Dark brown in drakes with greyish black head; tail with black and white feathers. Ducks are solid brown. A white ring may or may not be present at neck in both sexes.

Beak/bill: Predominantly yellow

Shank: Predominantly yellow

Feet: Predominantly yellow

Adult body weight: Male 1912±358.6 gm, female 1800±301.2 gm

Average body weight: 1.58 kg

Reproductive traits

Age at sexual maturity: 220-235 days

Age at first egg: 240 days

Production traits

Egg production: 75-90 eggs per annum

Egg weight: 60.5 gm

Remarks: Reared for meat, egg and ritual sacrifices, in backyard production system in rural areas.
